Do I really look that old? It seems like I’ve been asking myself that for decades. Examples: In the year 2000, I was in the WRJN lobby, speaking with a colleague. She said something (I can’t remember now what it was) which made me believe she thought I was older than I was. I said, “How old do you think I am?” She said, “I don’t know… 40?” I said, “I’m 30!” A few years later, 2003, was the 40th anniversary of JFK’s assassination. I was producing a talk show in the WRJN studio. The hosts, of course, were reminiscing about where they were when they heard the news of the assassination. They turned to me and said, “Curt, where were YOU?” I told them, “Guys, I don’t know how old you THINK I am, but I wasn’t even a glimmer in my daddy’s eye when JFK was killed.” So, they must have not only thought I was alive then, but that I was old enough to have a vivid memory of it. Just this year, my (admittedly) beautiful wife was mistaken for a college student, and the person thought I was her FATHER, despite the fact that she is 4 months my elder. I recently turned the old double-nickel, and despite being offered senior discounts and AARP memberships, I sure don’t FEEL 55. The guy looking back at me in the mirror, however, disagrees. But, by now, I’m used to that.

When I first took over the morning show in the mid 1990’s, (alongside veteran newsman Tom Karkow), I envisioned a studio full of people, hyper-serving southeast Wisconsin. That’s when we hired meteorologist Elliot Abrams, and a […]
