MUKWONAGO, Wis – State Representative Nik Rettinger announced that he will not seek re-election to the State Assembly. Rettinger says he made this decision to avoid forcing a primary with another Republican candidate after being paired with state Rep. Chuck Wichgers, R-Muskego in the 84th Assembly District during the redistricting process.
Rettinger, a Republican, expressed his belief that it is best for the state to avoid a primary and instead focus efforts on the critical Presidential, U.S. Senate, and State Legislative elections in November. He stated, “We need all hands on-deck for the challenges that lie ahead in this cycle. We must all focus on ensuring we deliver victories at the top of the ticket this Fall downward to holding our Republican majorities in the Legislature. We must continue the common-sense policies that have made this state great.”
Rettinger reflected on his time as a freshman lawmaker, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to serve the communities across the 83rd District in the Wisconsin State Assembly. He emphasized his commitment to meeting constituents and learning about their priorities, stating, “During my time in office, it has been important to me to learn and stand up for the priorities that matter most to you in making your lives better.”
The contest in the 84th Assembly District currently has Wichgers running as a Republican. Zachary Roper is a 20 year old college student running as a Democrat in the race.
After redistricting, the 84th now consists of Norway and Waterford in Racine County, Muskego, Vernon, Big Bend, and Mukwanago in Waukesha County, and small part of northeastern Walworth County.
