GREEN BAY, WI – (WISS & WGBW) – When people think about making renovations or improvements to their homes to make them more functional for living, most of the time, they think of making changes that help with disabilities. However, April McNamara of Functional Living with April says these types of changes can help everyone.
“I help to make it functional and supportive so you can focus on what’s important to you – those everyday things, and being able to be with your family, and this concept I like to call ‘Living in Place,’” said McNamara. “You can be a mom, and you’re taking care of your children. Or maybe you might have some limitations and need some help to think of different ways to make home more functional or supportive. Or maybe you’re taking care of a loved one or spouse. Or maybe you’re a senior who just retired and is looking for the next chapter in life. It’s really about making home functional and supportive for you.”
McNamara helps people by first going through the home and assessing the function of the spaces. What do you want and need to do in your home? She then looks at simplifying systems and routines to manage your home. Decluttering is also a part of the process.
“Home is like an extension of us. We place meaning onto the things that are around us. So let’s make home reflect that authentic self, and be joyful and happy and comfortable,” said McNamara.
