BURLINGTON, Wis. (Civic Media) — Authorities are investigating two separate incidents involving threats connected to local high schools in southeastern Wisconsin. It’s lead to an increase in police presence and community concern.
On Thursday, the Burlington Area School District alerted the City of Burlington Police Department about a threatening social media post related to the upcoming presidential election and Burlington High School. Police quickly identified the suspect as a 17-year-old former student, who was taken into custody and is currently being held at the Racine County Jail.
Officers determined that the threat was isolated and found no additional dangers to the school or the community. The social media post has since been removed.
In a separate incident, the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a possible threat made by a student at Kettle Moraine High School on Wednesday. School Resource Officers were informed of the threat against another student, but authorities say their investigation does not support claims circulating on social media about scissors and anti-Semitic comments.
In separate statements, the Burlington Police Department praised its collaboration with the school district during the investigation, while the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Office increased patrols around Kettle Moraine High School as a precaution.
The Racine County District Attorney’s Office is reviewing the Burlington case for potential charges. Authorities urge anyone with information about either incident to contact local law enforcement.
