TWO RIVERS, WI – (CIVIC MEDIA) – Elijah Vue has been found. The human skeletal remains found in the Town of Two Rivers in Manitowoc County have been positively identified as those of the missing 3-year-old.
“It is with a heavy heart that I announce to you today, that those remains were identified as those of Elijah Vue,” said Two Rivers Police Chief Ben Meinnert during a press briefing Friday, September 13th. “This is not the outcome that we hoped for. The family is devastated. We’re devastated. Our community is devastated. I never met Elijah, but I watched that 3-year-old boy bring out the best in this community.”
The Wisconsin Crime Lab identified the remains using DNA Testing
Elijah’s remains were found on private property on Kisty-Bob Lane and Manitou Drive in the Town of Two Rivers – just over 3 miles northwest of where Elijah was last seen. They were not found at the Manitou Girl Scout Camp as previously reported.
The investigation will now pivot in a different direction.
“What started out as a search for a missing boy is now a death investigation. Although we understand your desire for information, we can’t share every detail, and we must maintain the integrity of the investigation,” said Meinnert.
Elijah was reported missing on February 20th of this year by Jesse Vang. The toddler was staying with Vang, his mother’s boyfriend, for “disciplinary reasons.” Elijah’s mother, Katrina Baur, and Vang are both being held in the Manitowoc County Jail on felony charges of child neglect. They have not been charged in his disappearance or death.
Police are asking the community to respect the privacy of Elijah’s family to allow them to grieve. They are also asking the community to respect private property and avoid the area.
Meinnert said Two Rivers Police Department will continue to be the sole source of accurate information on the case. He did ask people who may have any information now to call Detective Lieutenant Glaser at (920) 686-7200.
