Wisconsin’s 8th District has a new representative, and it’s someone who describes her win as a victory for unity after running a grassroots campaign. State Senator-Elect Jodi Habush Sinykin says she champions progress and is a self-described “consensus builder.” She tells Dom Salvia, host of The Dom Salvia Show, about her goal of focusing on real conversations and solutions that put the people first.
Sinykin credits her win to an enormous community effort. It brought supporters together from across her district.
“It was all the doors we knocked on, the calls we made, and the conversations we held,” she explains. “People in this district are ready for progress, for solutions that bridge divides and bring real benefits to our schools, our healthcare, and our economy.”

There is also an uphill battle to fight. Sinykin tells Salvia the Wisconsin legislative landscape is still dominated by Republican majorities. But she is optimistic about finding common ground. Sinykin points to issues like securing adequate funding for public schools, codifying reproductive health rights, and ensuring essential services are not lost in political skirmishes.
“We have an opportunity here to finally put divisive partisanship aside,” she says. “And it’s time to start making the necessary investments in our local communities.”
The new state senator is open in talking about the persistent challenges in her district. It ranges from the struggle for equitable school funding to frustrations over stagnant state resources in areas like literacy support and PFAS remediation. She criticizes what she views as a legislative gridlock, where resources for vital community needs are being held hostage due to partisan wars.
And Sinykin’s take on the future of education? She calls on the need for accountability and transparency within both public schools and voucher-funded private institutions.
“We need to level the playing field and make sure that every student, in every type of school, is given the opportunity to thrive,” Sinykin says.
Her victory may demonstrate the potential power of community-based solutions. Sinykin’s message of unity and resilience resonates with many in Wisconsin’s 8th District and beyond – looking forward to the promise of progress — turned into action.
