Gov. Tony Evers will give his budget address to the state Legislature Tuesday night.

During the speech, Evers is will reveal his whole proposal, kicking off a negotiation process between him and Republican state lawmakers, who control both chambers of the Legislature.

It’s expected that Evers’ budget priorities to align with what he talked about in his State of the State address last month. He has already revealed some parts of his ideas, including increasing funding for schools, reforms to Wisconsin’s correctional system and funding the new Office of Violence Prevention. His budget proposal also includes measures to lower the cost of child care and prescription medications.

After Evers’ State of the State address, Assembly Speaker Robin Vos called Evers’ priorities “a whole lot of things that are not going to happen in Wisconsin.”

Republicans, including Legislative leaders and the co-chairs of the Joint Finance Committee, have scheduled a press conference following Evers’ budget address.

Editor’s note: Civic Media will have special coverage of the address on-air and online. The speech will begin at 7 p.m.
