WIAA boys basketball playoff brackets announced and area teams know their road to the Kohl Center.

Sunday morning the WIAA announced brackets for the upcoming boys’ basketball playoffs with area teams knowing their first opponents when the postseason begins in a little more than a week.

In Division 1, Sectional 1 there won’t be many secrets when local rivals Wausau West and D.C. Everest meet for the third time this season. The 6th seeded Warriors will have homecourt advantage over the 11th seeded Evergreens when they meet in a regional semifinal on Friday, March 7th but it’s the Evergreens who won the two regular season meetings. In the same sectional bracket WVC champion Marshfield is seeded 2nd and will host either #15 Appleton East or #18 Chippewa Falls. SPASH is seeded 7th and will host #10 Hudson and Wisconsin Rapids is seeded 16th and will host 17th seed Appleton West on Tuesday, March 4th with the winner moving on to play at #1 seed Kaukauna.

In Division 2, Sectional 1 Wausau East has the top seed in their regional and will wait for the winner of the game between 8th seeded Merrill and #9 Antigo in a regional semifinal at East on March 7th. The Bluejays will host the Red Robins on next Tuesday, March 4th. In the bottom half of the sectional bracket, Mosinee is seeded 4th and will host the winner of the game between 5th seeded Sparta and #12 Shawano on March 7th.

In Division 3, Sectional 2 Wittenberg-Birnamwood has earned a #2 seed and will be home against either 10 seed Amherst or 7th seed Wrightstown in a regional semifinal on March 7th. Also in that bracket Tomahawk is seeded #11 and will play at #6 Menominee Nation in a regional quarterfinal on Tuesday, March 4th.

Division 4, Sectional 2 is full of Marawood Conference powers. Auburndale is the top seed in the top part of the bracket and will host either #9 Crandon or #8 Colby in a regional semi on March 7th. Stratford is seeded 2nd and likewise receive a first round bye. Stratford will wait for the winner of the game between 7th seeded Edgar and #10 Abbotsford in a regional semi on March 7th. Edgar will host Abby on March 4th. Last year’s sectional champ Marathon is seeded 4th and will play the winner of the game between 5th seeded Phillips and #12 Chequamegon in a regional semifinal on March 7th.

In Division 5 Newman Catholic is seeded 12th in Sectional 2 and will travel to 5th seed Wabeno/Laona in a regional quarterfinal on Tuesday, March 4th. Northland Lutheran is seeded 6th and will host #11 Gresham in a meeting between CWC-North teams in the regional quarterfinals.

Regional playoffs will be played on March 4th, 7th and 8th with sectional semifinals on March 13th and the sectional finals on March 15th and the state tournament will be held at the Kohl Center in Madison from March 20th to the 22nd.
