The countdown is on for a beloved tradition where local leprechauns take center stage to kick off St. Patrick’s Day. It all starts with some shenanigans as the city’s name transforms from New London to New Dublin. Every year, The Shamrock Club leads the way into what’s now a week-long celebration including music, dancing, parades, and enough cheer to turn anyone into a temporary Irishman.

“It all starts with the mischievous leprechauns changing the town’s population signs from New London to New Dublin,” The Shamrock Club’s Ryan Lanning says. “It’s a fun tradition that gets everyone in the spirit for St. Patrick’s Week!”

The area’s leprechauns then visit schools, nursing homes, and local businesses where they spread smiles and excitement about the festivities. And as the week continues, both residents and visitors don their finest green attire, marking the days filled with Irish food, drink, and song.

But the event that put New Dublin on the map? A Grand Irish Parade which is the largest in the state. It takes place on the final day of the festival, Saturday, March 22 at 1 pm. There are typically more than 130 units – including bagpipe bands – and quirky acts like the green hearse procession with a comedic twist. Lanning calls it a must see. The fun continues into the evening with live Gaelic bands and even Irish dancing lessons!

“This isn’t just a St. Patrick’s Day celebration,” Lanning explains. “It’s a whole week of Irish festivities. From Irish caroling to hooligan day with corned beef and cabbage along the way, there’s something for everyone. It’s the best time to experience the heart of Irish culture in New Dublin.”

So, whether you’re Irish by blood or just in spirit, everyone is welcomed to join in the revelry. And the best part? The streets will be packed with joy and camaraderie making it a celebration for all.

"All Roads Open to New Dublin" is this year's St. Patrick's week theme. It's to honor the end of road construction through the city. Find a map here.

“The spirits are bubblin’ in New Dublin,” Lanning says. “We are proud of what we do and take our St. Patrick’s Day very seriously. Slainte, to you!”

It’s a toast to your health. And you may want to share it with everyone you meet this St. Patrick’s week.
