Riverdale loses to Southwestern 7-6 in SWAL softball action
High school baseball and softball games have arrived this spring in Wisconsin.
Many were postponed because of extreme cold on Monday. One of those was moved to Tuesday night at Riverdale high school. The Chieftains lost to Southwestern 7-6 in SWAL softball action.
The Wildcats never trailed after jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the opening inning. Riverdale tied the game with single runs in the first and third innings. Southwestern went up by 5 runs with 2 in the 4th and 3 in the fifth inning. The Chieftains tightened the gap with a 3 run fifth inning and a single run in the 7th but failed to tie or win the game with runners stranded at second and third base when the game ended.Riverdale pitcher Macy McKay struck out 11 batters and walked 2 while suffering the loss. She was 3 for 4 at the plate with 2 rbi. Jocey Adams and Kennedy Couey each had 2 hits.
The Chieftans fell to 1-1 in the conference and 3-2 overall. They will play Iowa Grant on Thursday.Southwestern was led at the plate by Ashlynn Droessler who was 3 for 4 with an rbi, and Brynlee Droessler was 2 for 4 with 2 rbi. Morgan Muller was the winning pitcher after working 5 innings. Hailey Brant worked two innings of relief from the pitchers circle.
The Wildcats are now 1-3 overall and 1-1 in the conference following the 7-6 win at Riverdale Tuesday.
