Lincoln High School Presents: The Lightning Thief

 The theater department of Lincoln High School in Wisconsin Rapids has been hard at work for nearly three months. Beginning with auditions, students have been preparing to present The Lightning Thief: A Percy Jackson Musical. From costumes to lighting, stage fights, dancing and singing, this musical has something for everyone.

The Long Process

This production of The Lightning Thief began by casting students into their roles. Auditions were held in early February and this year included Wisconsin Rapids Area Middle School 8th grade drama students. Once the cast was set, the rehearsal process began. For weeks the students memorized lines and learned their songs. In addition, this production also incorporates dance and stage fighting choreography. Rehearsals took place after school each week. 

Theater is not just for Acting

Sarah Danke, drama teacher and director, has led this group throughout the production of The Lightning Thief. She has incorporated students into all aspects of the show. Jordyn Harriman, costume designer and sound tech shared, “You don’t have to be on stage to do theatre. There’s more than just acting.” The crew has worked hard to make this production something special. Some of the cast shared, “We get to do things we’ve never done before.” Referring to different costumes, sword fighting, and special effects including a trap door. Charlie Shaw, who plays Luke in the show and serves as fight captain, shares, “If you want a new experience with theater, you want to come to this show.

Premise of the Show

Percy Jackson is a twelve year old boy who has been repeatedly kicked out of school. His home life was difficult, never knowing his real father. Through a series of crazy events including an attack by a demon lady, he is sent to a camp for half-bloods. At this camp he discovers his father is actually a god, and that gods have been fighting over a stolen lightning bolt. He embarks on a quest to find and return this stolen lightning bolt, hence the name The Lightning Thief. In doing so he makes a name for himself and his father.

Tickets Are Still Available

Tickets for the show are still available and are $15 or $10 for WRPS students. Performances are May 1,2, & 3 at 7:00 pm and May 4 at 2:00 pm. Performances will take place at the Performing Arts Center of Wisconsin Rapids.
