Madison hires new Transportation Director
MADISON, Wis (WMDX) – Madison will soon have a new Director of Transportation.
The city has hired Christof Spieler to head Metro Transit, Traffic Engineering, and the Parking Division.
Former Transportation Director Tom Lynch retired last month.
Spieler has worked with other cities across the country, including Albuquerque, Boston, Dallas, Houston and Philadelphia. He currently works for a consulting firm, and is a lecturer at Rice University.
“I look forward to bringing the skills and experience I’ve developed to a role where we can make sure cars, pedestrians, bikes, and buses all work together, and to have the opportunity to turn master plans into projects that make peoples’ lives better every day,” Spieler said in a statement posted on the city website. “I’m excited about working with the community, a talented team, and committed leadership in a dynamic, growing city.”
Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway said he’ll be a good fit for Madison’s urban character with unique geography.
He will start on July 21.
