MADISON, Wis (CIVIC MEDIA) – The Joint Finance Committee voted to update public programs and retain certain positions in government offices Thursday.
The committee moved forward with proposed updates to the public employee pension system and agreed to continue funding for youth firefighter programs. They also voted to maintain five call center positions at the Department of Safety and Professional Services for an additional three years.
Democratic representatives on the board sought to add more staff and make the call center positions permanent, but their efforts ultimately fell short.
Lawmakers met with Governor Evers last week to discuss the inclusion of other items in the state budget. Legislature must approve the budget by June 30.
