WAUSAU, Wis. (WXCO) – Brent Jacobson is running as a Republican for the Wisconsin Assembly this fall, for the new 87th District.

Rep. James Edming, also a Republican, currently holds the seat for the 87th, which covers Sawyer, Rusk, Taylor, and the northwest side of Marathon County. This news comes one day after Governor Tony Evers signed new legislative maps into law, changing those boundaries dramatically. The new version of District 87 covers parts of Marathon, Portage, Waupaca and Shawano counties.

A map showing proposed Assembly district lines on Jan. 24, 2024 in a bill passed by Republicans.

39 year old Jacobson is a Mosinee native and has been serving as Mosinee’s mayor since 2015, with his term expiring in April of 2025.

Jacobson is a practicing attorney and small business owner who previously served on the Marathon County Board with committee assignments to the Public Safety Committee, Central Wisconsin Airport Board and Rules Committee. He has chaired a multi-jurisdictional fire and EMS department, planning commission, and tourism commission.

“While some communities have struggled to attract businesses and residents, we have gained them. I plan to use the same drive and determination to move our state and region forward if chosen by the people of Central Wisconsin to be their next representative in the Legislature.” said Jacobson. “I also believe elected leaders can serve constituents far better by listening more and talking less. That is why I plan to spend the next several months hitting the streets and knocking the doors to keep the conversation going. I will listen to the good and the bad from anyone.”
