Civic Media Sports Reporter Mike Clemens talks one-on-one with Green Bay HOF player LeRoy Butler as the Packers Tailgate Tour kicks off in Kenosha. The team is bringing fun for the fans and funds for local charities on every stop.
The Green Bay Packers Tailgate Tour is off and running across Southern Wisconsin with the first stop in Kenosha on Tuesday. The team is bringing fun for the fans and funds for local charities. Three more visits are planned along with a few surprise stops along the way.
Current players Elgton Jenkins, Kenny Clark, and Rasheed Walker, as well as alumni players Bryan Bulaga, Mike Daniels, Alex Green, and Packers President/CEO Mark Murphy are part of this year’s event meant to celebrate football and the team’s engagement in local communities across the state.
Civic Media Sports Reporter Mike Clemens spoke one-on-one with Packers Hall of Fame Inductee LeRoy Butler during the stop. Butler is now on the board of directors and believes the Packers Foundation has to continue funding social agencies in Wisconsin.
“Some are in financial trouble,” Butler says. “But we are in a place to be able to bring awareness about the important work being done by these agencies as well as giving support to keep the doors from closing.”
The first fundraising event is being held Tuesday night at the Strawberry Creek Country Club in Kenosha. It is in conjunction with the Tailgate Tour’s stop in the city. The event is sold out and all proceeds will benefit the Shalom Center and its ongoing food, shelter, and community resource programs for residents.
Don Rosen, host of The Don Rosen Show on local Civic Media radio station WRJN, talked with Shalom Center Executive Director Tamarra Coleman about the tailgating and fundraising event. You can listen to the podcast of the interview here.
The tour will also be making stops in Beloit on April 10, Platteville on April 11, and Sun Prairie on April 12. The players and alumni taking part will continue their efforts to make a difference in each area. This includes planned visits to schools, hospitals, and community centers. Find more information about the tour stop on our website here.
There will also be stops as the Tailgate Tour travels from Southern Wisconsin to Green Bay on April 13. However, the locations are meant to be a surprise and will only be revealed shortly before the players arrive.
This is the 18th time the Packers have taken the Tailgate Tour to various parts of the state.
