RACINE, Wis (WRJN) – Racine County Democrat Lorenzo Santos has made the decision to suspend his campaign for Wisconsin’s 1st Congressional District, clearing the path for fellow Democrat Peter Barca to secure the party’s nomination. Santos, currently serving as the Deputy Emergency Management Coordinator in Racine County, is encouraging his supporters to remain committed to the party.
In his statement, Santos expressed his support for the former Wisconsin Department of Revenue Secretary. The Kenosha native also served in Wisconsin State Assembly and has received the endorsement of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.
With Santos stepping aside, Barca’s path to the Democratic nomination appears virtually assured. Now, he stands ready to face the Republican incumbent Representative Bryan Steil in the upcoming general election.
