Governor Tim Walz Discusses Rural America and the 2024 Election on The Chad Holmes Show

The Democratic Vice Presidential Nominee talks about his rural roots, bipartisanship, and what he orders at Culver’s on WXCO Radio

He may be the Democratic nominee for Vice President, but Minnesota Governor Tim Walz took time to join Chad Holmes, host of The Chad Holmes Show, to discuss his rural upbringing, unity, and the 2024 election. Holmes also taking the opportunity to ask Walz what he likes to order at Culver’s, which lightened the conversation on Civic Media radio station WXCO in Wausau.

Walz was born and raised in Nebraska, and though spending years teaching in Minnesota, he tells Holmes his connection to rural America runs deep. 

“My heart is there,” Walz explains. “The values of rural communities, caring for your neighbors, ensuring strong schools, and creating opportunities. It’s all very central to my political philosophy, too.”  

He’s also no stranger to working across the aisle. Walz served six terms as a Congressman and pointed out his 12 years on the Agriculture Committee and another 12 on the Veterans Affairs Committee. He tells Holmes it is where he championed bipartisan efforts to modernize the GI Bill and address the physical and mental wounds of war.  

“I believe in the practical approach to governance,” Walz says. “I really did go to Congress to get things done.”

Holmes also asked about his success in a district that typically leaned Republican. 

“The appeal to conservative voters is my ability to listen and compromise without sacrificing core values,” Walz responds. “And I respect the concerns of all voters, whether it’s healthcare costs, property taxes, or economic fairness.”

Walz also discusses the growing divide in American politics, while rejecting the idea of “two Americas.” 

“There is strength when urban and rural communities work together,” he tells Holmes. “And I’m feeling it. There is a desire among the public to move past the nastiness in politics. And there is excitement surrounding our campaign.”

Finally, Holmes asks Walz about his favorite order at Culver’s, the popular restaurant based in Wisconsin. 

“I have a love of the Mushroom and Swiss burger with onion rings, and a simple custard to top it off,” he reveals. 

It’s just one part of the campaign trail Walz is enjoying and he tells Holmes he hopes to visit the North Central Wisconsin area soon.
