Madison, Wis.Max Ink Radio hosts Rökker, Jimmy K and Teri Barr were back at it live this past Saturday, August 12, 2023 in the Devil’s Lair with Kaylin Kole, the 22-year-old artist from Portage, Wisconsin whose voice resonates with authenticity and passion.

Her musical journey, ignited by family influences at a very young age, had her touring the country playing original music by the time she was 16. Learning to cultivate her voice with practice and discipline, she’s trained it into a versatile instrument that allows her to emulate her varied musical influences—from Adele to Rascal Flatts—and find her own originality in the process.

Kicking things off with “You Ain’t Jack,” her most recently released single in July, Kaylin set the tone for the musical treat we were about to enjoy. Followed by “11:03,” a very personal tale of heartbreak that showcases her ability to comfortably convey her vulnerability through her songwriting. “11:03” will be part of her next release due out on August 23 of this year.

Continuing with “Working on Working on It,” Kaylin Kole takes us into the frustration of having to leave someone who just can’t seem to find their way out of a rut. This is a theme that she explores more deeply in the melodic melancholy of “Bourbon Warfare,” the title cut of her upcoming EP. Co-written with Kurt Stevens and Kent Jenkins, the song takes us through the tempestuous angst of a complicated relationship at a crossroads—all while showcasing Kole’s vocal range and artistic maturity.

By the time she closed the musical selection with “Bye Now” later in the hour, she left us excited at the prospect of following her ascent through the music stratosphere in the coming years. Her unique combination of talent, charm, courage, warmth and authenticity elevate her artistry to a level that is refreshing, exciting and comforting all at once.
