Racine, Wis. (WRJN) – Former Racine Mayor John Dickert left that executive role for a career transition into the water industry. His time as the head of the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Cities Initiative provided him with valuable knowledge about water, which he recently shared on The Don Rosen Show. The interview covered various topics, including Dickert’s transition from mayor to the water industry and the 2008 housing industry collapse. He reflected on the challenges he faced during his tenure as mayor, his experiences in real estate, and the impact of the economic downturn on people.

During the conversation, the focus shifted to water-related matters, with an emphasis on the importance of understanding and appreciating tap water. Dickert discussed potential issues with bottled water, such as PFAS contamination, and stressed the need for regular water quality testing.

The discussion also touched on the water situation in Waukesha, where other Great Lakes cities had to approve the tapping into Lake Michigan water. Dickert said that decision highlighted the collaborative efforts and considerations involved in managing water resources.

The former Mayor is now working in Madison, in a Department of Revenue role alongside Kenosha’s Peter Barca.
