RACINE, Wis. (WRJN) – The 8th District of Racine will need a new representative on the City Council. Alderman Marcus West announced his resignation during this week’s Common Council meeting after serving four years in the role.
West said he is stepping down because he’s moving outside the boundaries of the 8th District, which he has represented since 2019. Municipal elected officials in Wisconsin are required to maintain residency within the district they represent.
The 8th District encompasses neighborhoods in west-central Racine.
With the resignation, the City Council must decide whether to appoint a new 8th District representative after reviewing applications, schedule a special election for voters to choose a replacement, or allow the seat to remain vacant until the next regularly scheduled election.
