“Election season brings a lot of uncertainty. And as humans, we don’t like the lack of control,” Sabin says. “The relentless campaign ads and polarizing media can leave people feeling hopeless. Even everyday activities, like watching a simple cat video, seem tainted by stress-inducing advertisements.”
Sabin shares three tips to focus on self-care:
“Fear divides; love connects,” she says. “Our collective loneliness and unhappiness are largely products of isolation. And Gen X, a generation not known for asking for help, can often struggle with loneliness. It’s a challenge made harder by the divisiveness of politics.”
Sabin also points out the power of community to bring people together, even in a society that feels increasingly fractured.
“Love can build connections,” Sabin says. “We need more of that if we’re going to make it through the noise.”
