KENOSHA COUNTY, Wis (WRJN) – Part of the border between Racine and Kenosha Counties has a new name. The road formerly known as county Highway KR, from Interstate 94 to Highway 32 along the Kenosha-Racine county line, is now state Highway 195. The section west of I-94 remains Highway KR.
There is also a separate sign change west of the I. State Highway 75 is gone, now the road is now county Highway BD, spanning from Highway 50 in Kenosha County to Highway 20 in Racine County. The “BD” designation reflects the towns it passes through: Brighton in Kenosha County and Dover in Racine County.
The transfers were negotiated between Kenosha County, Racine County, and the state of Wisconsin. It follows upgrades to Highway KR, said Kenosha County Executive Samantha Kerkman. “Highway KR, now Highway 195, is a major thoroughfare with a state highway profile, while old Highway 75, now Highway BD, is a two-lane rural road,” Kerkman said in a statement..
The state will now cover the full maintenance costs of Highway 195, while Kenosha and Racine counties will maintain Highway BD. Kenosha County Highway Director Greg Boldt noted that despite the increased road length, the county anticipates cost savings in maintenance. The County Boards in both counties approved the agreement this fall.
