GREEN BAY, WI- (WGBW) – The Green Bay City Council approved plans for the redevelopment of land along the Fox River during its meeting Tuesday night. The plans are contingent upon moving the coal piles from their current Mason Street site to the former Pulliam Power Plant Site.
C. Reiss, which owns and manages the coal piles, is one of eight parties interested in the Pulliam site. C. Reiss wants to purchase the Pulliam site for 3.5 million or lease it for 25 years.
The decision on the Pulliam site resides not with the City of Green Bay but with Brown County and the Port of Green Bay. They have begun meeting with the interested parties and will make a decision at a later time.
In the meantime, Alder Brian Johnson suggested an amendment to the memorandum of understanding with C. Reiss, stating that if Brown County does not choose the company for the Pulliam site, the memorandum of understanding will terminate.
“I don’t want these conditions to exist in perpetuity,” said Johnson. “Because I think if the RFI is not selected and advanced by the county, I think we need to reset the table and talk about how this MOU might change to accommodate whatever new proposal might come forward.”
The Green Bay City Council heard a presentation from the NFL in preparation for the NFL Draft 2025 coming to Lambeau Field and Titletown on April 24th through April 26th. John Barker, the NFL Global Head of Major Events, said the NFL is excited and prepared for a great event.
“The Draft is about hope. Everybody’s zero-zero. Everybody’s got a chance. And it’s about football. And it’s about fandom, and it’s about community,” Barker said. “To be able to do that celebration at the Mecca for football is really special. Lambeau Field is a very, very special place.”
Bringing the NFL Draft 2025 to Green Bay has been described as a once-in-a-lifetime event. Alder Johnson asked Barker what the chances would be to bring it back to Lambeau a second time.
“I’ll tell you what,” said Barker in jest. “Let’s get through this one. Celebrate it. Have a great time. Then on Monday we can sit down and have a chat!”
