The Platteville Hillmen captured their second consecutive regional championship on Saturday night, defeating the River Valley Blackhawks by a final score of 75-56.
The Hillmen jumped out to a 16-6 lead, thanks to Nathan Mumm and Jauron Blevins, who both connected on a pair of three point baskets during the opening spurt.
The Blackhawks battled back and cut the lead to 16-10 before the Hillmen would connect on four more three point baskets, three of which came from Nathan Mumm. Myron Reuter would conclude the first half half three point barrage when he hit from deep just before the halftime buzzer and the Hillmen would have a 36-25 lead at the break.
The second half would see the Hillmen attack the rim and and continue to make timely shots from deep. Reuter would score 14 of his game high 23 in the second half and the Hillmen would hit on four more from beyond the arc, for a total of 12 made three pointers on the evening. The Hillmen were 12 of 30 from three point range for the contest.
The victory moves the Hillmen into sectional level play. They will play at Richland Center on Thursday evening and take on Wisconsin Dells at 7:00 P. The Valley Hawks finished the season at 14 and 13. The hillmen continues with it’s 19-7 season.
