Wild Wisconsin Warmth To Shatter Records, May Spark A Fire

MADISON, Wis. (CIVIC MEDIA) – The heat is cranked up with breezy winds pushing us to temperatures 30 degrees above normal for early March.

This time of year temperatures typically barely climb above freezing and reach the mid to upper 30s across the state.

But this year, March 10th has history written on it.

Wisconsin will be soaking up the sun and enjoying temperatures 30 to 40 degrees above normal. The state is expected to reach highs from the mid 60s to the low 70s. Not far away, in Nebraska and Iowa, 80’s will be struck.

RECORD HIGH TEMPS TO BEAT:

Milwaukee: 68° in 1879

La Crosse: 67° in 1894

Madison: 66° in 1894

Oshkosh: 66° in 2021

Wisconsin Rapids: 65° in 2012

Eau Claire: 64° in 2012

Green Bay: 62° in 1894

Appleton: 62° in 2012

Wausau: 61° in 2012

Hayward: 61° in 2015

Rhinelander: 61° in 1935

Ashland: 61° in 2015

Winds are pulling out of the south and are ushering in the unseasonable temperatures. Dry conditions paired with the warmth and winds, avoid burning and don’t toss your cigarette. Gusts will be approaching 30 mph.

A high fire danger has been issued for western Wisconsin (yellow areas).

Dry, dead vegetation is in prime condition to spark a fire.

Burn bans are in place in most DNR areas.

Moderate risks for wildfires stretch east (blue) and a low risk remains far north (green).

A large grass fire was reported near Capital Drive and Brookfield on Sunday afternoon. The smoke could be seen for miles and the blaze evacuated homes.
