KENOSHA, Wis. (WRJN) – Kenosha County Clerk Regi Waligora is alerting voters about recent absentee ballot request mailings from the Center for Voter Information. It’s actually a private organization not affiliated with election officials.
Waligora says the mailings, which may appear official, are not actual absentee ballots.
Wisconsin law permits private groups to send voter registration or absentee ballot request forms, but election officials have no oversight of such mailings.
Waligora warned that these forms often contain outdated or incorrect voter information.
“These mailings cause confusion, especially among voters who have not requested an absentee ballot and generally do not vote absentee,” Waligora said.
“Personally, I have received this type of mailing, addressed to my adult children who have not lived or voted in Wisconsin for over five years. My guess is the third-party organizations are using outdated voter lists, which may contain incorrect information.”
Voters are encouraged to verify their registration and absentee ballot requests at MyVote.wi.gov.
Waligora stressed that only voters or authorized assistors can request absentee ballots.
