RACINE, Wis. (WRJN) – In-person absentee voting for Wisconsin’s April 1st election begins today, with voters facing decisions on local referendums, neighborhood races, and statewide contests.

City of Racine voters will decide on a $1.5 million annual property tax levy increase to maintain nine paramedic/EMT positions, currently funded by a temporary federal grant. The referendum would raise taxes by $31 per year per $100,000 of assessed home value.

Racine Unified School District is seeking voter approval for a $190 million operational referendum over five years. If passed, it would increase property taxes by $35 annually per $100,000 of equalized property value.

Statewide, voters will choose a new Supreme Court justice, elect the top educational official, and decide on a constitutional amendment regarding voter ID requirements.

People can find voting information at myvote.wi.gov. The Racine County Eye website offers video interviews with local candidates.

Early voting locations and hours vary by municipality. Voters are required to show photo ID to receive an absentee ballot.
