MILWAUKEE (Civic Media) – The 2025 Milwaukee Brewers season is set to begin Thursday, March 27th when the Crew takes on the New York Yankees.
Milwaukee is fresh off of back-to-back NL Central championships, going 93-69 in 2024.
Under first-year manager Pat Murphy, the Brewers exceeded expectations, advancing to the NL Wild Card round before being eliminated by the New York Mets.
There have been some changes since last season. Gone are pitchers Wade Miley, Bryse Wilson, Joe Ross, Colin Rae, Frankie Montas, Hoby Milner, and former all-star Devin Williams. Also leaving is Willy Adames, a fan favorite who signed a 7-year, $182 million contract to play in San Francisco.
Milwaukee’s lineup looks more or less the same, minus Adames, going into 2025. The emergence of Jackson Chourio, who had a huge spring, gives the Brewers a power-packed outfield that includes Garrett Mitchell, Sal Frelick, and former MVP Christian Yelich.
The infield will be under the most scrutiny this season as Adames and his production exit. Opening Day starters appear to be Brice Turang at second, Joey Ortiz moving from third base to shortstop, and Oliver Dunn, who made the Opening Day roster last year before being sent to the minors and missing time with a back injury, stepping in at third base.
Veterans William Contreras and Rhys Hoskins are in line to start at catcher and first base as well.
The revamped pitching staff will welcome back Brandon Woodruff later this season. Woodruff missed all of last year. Also arriving is Jose Quintana, the journeyman pitcher who signed late in Spring Training. Other projected starters include Freddy Peralta, Aaron Civale, and Nestor Cortes. The Brewers have several pitchers out with injury to start the year, including D.L. Hall, Aaron Ashby, and Tobias Myers.
In the bullpen, Trevor Magill moves into the closer role. Another addition is Rule 5 pick Connor Thomas, who had a strong spring.
It’ll be the first Brewers season without Bob Uecker, the beloved Hall of Fame radio announcer who passed away this offseason. The Brewers will wear a special patch to honor his memory, and the team store will sell special gear with proceeds benefitting charities supported by the Uecker family.
Radio broadcasts this season can be heard across Wisconsin. Civic Media has five affiliates covering all parts of the state.
Hayward is the Brewers’ newest radio market, signing on for the 2025 season and beyond.
All game broadcasts on Civic Media stations are over-the-air only.
