RICHLAND CENTER, Wis (CIVIC MEDIA) – The Milwaukee Brewers hit the field today in the Bronx to take on the evil empire known as the New York Yankees (this statement meant a LOT more to Brewer fans when the crew occupied a spot in the American League). Todays festivities start with a 2:05p Central first pitch from Yankee Stadium (ok it’s the NEW Yankee Stadium, but that’s a conversation for another time).

Even though our Crew starts on the road this year, they return to American Family Field to start the home portion of their schedule on Monday, March 31 to face another American League opponent in the Kansas City Royals.

See the entire Milwaukee Brewers 2025 schedule HERE.

Pitching is the key to championships.

Ben Sheets has the most Opening Day starts for the Brewers, with six, followed by Yovani Gallardo with 5; Teddy Higuera and Jim Slaton each threw 3; and Ricky Bones, Corbin Burnes, Mike Caldwell, Jim Colborn, Cal Eldred, Marty Pattin, Don Sutton, Bill Wegman, and Brandon Woodruff fall in at 2 opening day starts each.

Its all about how you dress.

In 1978, the Brewers debuted new pinstriped uniforms and a new “ball-in-glove” logo. The first Brewers uniforms were “hand-me-downs” from the Seattle Pilots. Because the move to Milwaukee received final approval less than a week before the start of the season, there was no time to order new uniforms

It also helps where you play.

The 1970 season would promise change for baseball in Seattle and Milwaukee. In the early hours of the morning on April 1, 1970 (I know one person from Seattle who thought it was an April Fools joke) the Seattle Pilots, behind the leadership of Bud Selig, became the Milwaukee Brewers. Less than a week after that, the Milwaukee Brewers took the field for the first time. They would finish the 1970 season with a 65-97 and tied for fourth place in the AL West. Yep, the WEST. The Crew (because they migrated from Seattle) started in the AL West and stayed there until after the 1971 season, when the transition to the American League Eastern Division happened. They stayed in the AL until a move to the National League to start the 1998 season, marketed as “AL/NL realignment”.

Opening day over .500? Yes they are!

Technically they are above .500 although not MANY percentage points, but still on the positive side of the break-even point. The Brewers have a 30-26 record on opening day for .535 opening day winning percentage. The very first opening day game played in franchise history was a 1-0 win over the Chicago white Sox as the Seattle Pilots. The first game for the team as the Milwaukee Brewers was played on April 7, 1970 and resulted in a shutout. The Crew dropped the game 11-0 to the California Angels.

Take a look at the calendar, it’s EARLY.

Today (March 27) marks the earliest opening day game in Milwaukee Brewer franchise history. The second-earliest match up took place March 28, 2019 as the Brewers pulled out a 5-4 win over the rival St. Louis Cardinals (NL Central). The Brewers started the season a year ago (April 2, 2024) with a win (3-2) over another American League squad in the Minnesota Twins.
