WAUSAU, Wis. (WXCO) – Minor flooding is occurring in Wausau after rapid snow melt causes the river to rise, swelling the banks and overflowing bends.

The Wisconsin River is rushing. Carrying ice chunks, tree debris and more as it builds over the banks below the Wausau dam.

On Saturday morning a Flood Warning was issued. After over 8″ of snow hit the area last week, it’s now made it’s way into the river basin, causing some trouble.

Water is overflowing at Oak Island Park as well as DC Everest.

At 7:10 a.m. the river was at 1167.8 ft and rising. Bankfull stage is 1065 ft. So it rose 3 feet rather quickly. Please report any flooding you see to local emergency services or law enforcement and ask them to report it to the National Weather Service as well.

Don’t drive past barricades closing roads down. Turn around, don’t drown.

Other area rivers are also rising and hitting minor flood stages.

The Wolf River at Shiocton and Royalton.

As well as the Black River at Black River Falls.
