MADISON, Wis. (WMDX) – The special election has been set for a seat on the Dane County Board.

Elizabeth Doyle has represented District 1 for six years. The district includes downtown Madison.

She resigned her seat because of housing costs. She told news outlets her rent increased by $2,400 in just two lease cycles, and priced out of her own neighborhood. She’s moving out of her district, and is no longer eligible for her seat.

The Dane County Board declared a special election on Tuesday, June 17.

Potential candidates are now allowed to start working on nomination papers, and get the signatures they need to add their names to the ballot.

If there are three or more candidates, there will be a primary Tuesday, May 20.
