All eyes are on Wisconsin as the NFL Draft’s player selection rounds are underway in Green Bay. But what you may not know – all ears are on an Appleton band as it prepares to live out its own big-league dreams.
Listen to a quick version of this story here:
Doozey is a high-energy, three-piece group made up of Andy Van Dusen (vocals/guitar), Ryan Patterson (bass), and DeAngelo Harris (drums). They’ve been playing together for years and are a Wisconsin Area Music Industry (WAMI) award winner. But this is the first time one of their original songs is opening up the opportunity to really score on their own unique talent.
“It’s a dream come true” Van Dusen says. “Outside of music, I’m a huge sports geek. I love my Green Bay Packers! So, getting to play during the draft? It’s unreal.”

Yet, this road to the draft wasn’t really planned. The wheels started rolling when Van Dusen learned Green Bay earned the opportunity to host the event. All he wanted, like many of those players who would be on the stage, was a chance.
“I texted our booking agent at like 3 am when I learned about the draft coming to Wisconsin,” he laughs. “Didn’t care, and I said, ‘Get us in there.’”

But here’s where the story gets even better.
Van Dusen and the band wrote a song with the NFL Draft in mind. And he had hopes of being able to play it there.
Turns out they’re not only going to be jamming it live for the first time as part of several shows related to the draft, but “Last One Standing” is being called the unofficially official anthem for this historic event.
Listen to a short clip of the song here:
“It’s about going for your goals, kind of like these college players who are hoping to have their names called to get signed by one of the NFL teams,” Van Dusen explains.

And as a band, Doozey’s goals are similar – they hope for the call that helps move them into the big league – of the music business. And they’re planning to make this weekend count by doing what they do best — showing up loud, proud, and ready to play.
It really is like the NFL Draft players. We cheer them on to a great football future as they cross the big stage. And now, we’re excited to support Doozey — all the way, too!
