MADISON, Wis. (CIVIC MEDIA) – In Columbia county, water has entered some homes and surrounds many as it rises feet above its banks at Portage.

The Wisconsin River is at it again, a half inch of rain just rolled through, following a hit of heavy rain on Monday. The water is rushing and rising to a minor flood stage.

Water has entered and flooded at least 12 homes in the Town of Dekorra, near Hwy V. Reports of water covering the roads both on River Oaks Road and Oak Knoll Road.

West Lane Road in Long Lake area has 4 feet of water over it in places.

Water is also surrounding seasonal homes along Old River Road in the Blackhawk Park area. There is also water at the base of Calendonia and Lewiston Lee on Old River Road.

Bankfull is when the river rises to 12.7 feet, it’s 5 feet above that at 17.7 feet Friday at 9 AM. The river is forecasted to rise a little more through the evening to 17.8 feet. Then it will start to fall back below flood stage by early Sunday morning.

The flood today compares to the previous flood on April 14th in 2014.

Did you know that most flood deaths happen in vehicles? Don’t drive around barricades or drive cars through flooded areas. You never know if the road is washed out underneath it… it’s happened too many times. Stay safe and turn around, don’t drown.
