American Players Theatre, of Spring Green, has won a Tony Award.  Each year, one Tony is awarded for Regional Theatre.

Along with bragging rights, American Players Theatre will receive a $25,000 grant.

This prestigious honor is awarded by the “American Theatre Wing” and “The Broadway League” to a regional company that has displayed a continuous level of artistic achievement contributing to the growth of theatre nationally. It marks a massive milestone for the organization and the state:

First in Wisconsin

APT is the first theater company in the state of Wisconsin to ever win this award.

WHAT IT MEANS TO THEM

APT’s Artistic Director, Brenda DeVita, and Managing Director Sara Young wrote the following statement:

On behalf of APT, we are honored and overwhelmed to receive the 2026 Regional Theatre Tony Award.  This award is for the whole APT community: the artists, artisans and staff who work so hard to bring stories to life on our Hill, who believe their work is special and that it matters – because it does matter.  This award is also for our extraordinary audience, who come back year after year, sharing this theater with friends and family, because it is their theater.  We are grateful to The Broadway League, The American Theater Wing, City National Bank and The American Theatre Critics Association for their faith in APT and in the promise of regional theater.

About the Theatre: Founded in 1977, the acclaimed nonprofit is situated on 110 wooded acres in Spring Green. They run nine plays annually, in rotating repertory from June through November, featuring a flagship outdoor amphitheater and the smaller indoor Touchstone Theatre.

Upcoming Season:

The company’s season is set to open on June 6, featuring productions like As You Like It and Chekhov’s Uncle Vanya.
