Yesterday’s snowstorm brought between 4 and 7 inches of snow to the area. There were interestate shutdowns, complaints about snow plows, and folks trying to keep up on neighborly duties. The significant snowfall led to various challenges

Interstate Shutdowns

In Kenosha County, a crash involving a jack-knifed semi-truck temporarily closed Interstate 41/94 northbound at the Illinois state line. The closure lasted nearly two hours, causing delays for commuters.

Snow Plowing Efforts

In Racine, officials have increased staffing levels to improve snow removal operations following complaints about inadequate service in early January. The city’s strategy prioritizes clearing main roads first, aiming for bare pavement within 24 hours after the snow stops. Residential streets are then addressed to ensure they are passable. Residents are asked to be patient and adhere to parking restrictions to facilitate efficient plowing.

Neighborly Duties

As we navigate the aftermath of the storm, it’s crucial to remember our neighborly duties:

  • Clear Snow Around Fire Hydrants: Ensure that fire hydrants are visible and accessible to firefighters in case of emergencies.
  • Maintain Furnace Exhaust and Intake: Keep your furnace exhaust and intake clear to prevent issues with your heating system.
  • If you have elderly or disabled neighbors, consider offering assistance with snow removal or other tasks that might be challenging for them.
