You’ve been gone now over twice as many years than you were in my life, yet you’re still a presence.  It’s as if you gave my life a great launch, then stepped aside, out of my way, to let me be me.

It’s funny – ironic even – that I’m in a business where a person’s voice is important, yet I can no longer remember yours.

When I was a teenager, all my teenage friends liked you.  I think that speaks volumes.

I wonder if I turned out ok.  I mean, you never foresaw a broadcasting career for me.  Nobody did.  Not even ME.  Certainly you had a hand in my career, a career that you knew I would enjoy.

When I think of you, I wonder if it’s because you’re thinking of me.  I’m pretty sure it is.

Finally, thanks!  Thanks for always prioritizing me and my brothers ahead of everything else.  Thanks for always treating me with kindness and respect.  You knew when to treat me like an adult, and when to let me be a kid.  Thanks for the life lessons, mom.  I’m still using them.

Your loving son,
Dan
